We’re just nine days away from the 2025 World Euchre Championship—when New Glarus becomes once again the Euchre capital of the world. Players from across the country are getting ready for an unforgettable weekend of cards, competition, and community.

Behind the scenes, we’ve been hard at work making sure this year’s tournament is our best ever. And thanks to the feedback you gave us in last year’s post-event survey, we’ve made a number of key improvements:

• The tournament room will have fewer tables to create more space for players and spectators to move comfortably.

• The top 12 players who place in both the singles and doubles tournament will receive prizes, as well as those who finish on top of each of the two preliminary rounds of the doubles tournament.

• We’ve refined how players will move around the room during the Singles Tournament, making gameplay more efficient and to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to play different people.

• To reduce congestion at the entrance, registration will be held at the pool house across the street from the main venue.

• Each morning, enjoy a breakfast burrito on-site starting at 8 AM. We will also be serving free coffee this year to get you going.

• Also, don’t miss the fried cheese curds served by the New Glarus Lions Club—a true Wisconsin county fair favorite. They will be joined by other food vendors, too.

• All players will receive a free official tournament T-shirt.

• Membership renewals will be available on-site, and this year’s cards are new and embossed—a great keepsake, and there are even more benefits to joining or renewing.

• Expect more Euchre and fun downtown with fellow players from around the world Friday and Saturday night—more cards, more laughs, more camaraderie.

And that’s just the beginning. There are more surprises in store, and we can’t wait to welcome you back to New Glarus for the most exciting weekend in Euchre.

All tournament tickets were emailed yesterday morning. If you are registered, you should now have:

• One ticket per person for the Singles Tournament

• One ticket per team for the Doubles Tournament

We heard from a few of you who were confused about only receiving one Doubles ticket for the team—and that’s completely understandable. This is a new process this year, and we should have communicated it more clearly in advance.

Here’s the reasoning behind it:

• There is now just one ticket per Doubles team to help make check-in faster and reduce wait times at registration.

• Since we are only tracking the team’s combined score (not each player’s individual points), this also makes scorekeeping more efficient. But don’t worry, the score will be applied to each individual after the tournament so national rankings can still be computed.

• Each ticket includes a unique QR code that can be scanned at check-in, which speeds up the process even more.

Please bring your ticket with you, either printed or on your phone. You’ll be able to check in at one of two locations:

1. Friday evening at Kleeman’s Bar & Grill (early registration opportunity—get your T-shirt and swag bag early)

2. Saturday and Sunday at the building, located across the street from the main venue

At check-in, we will:

• Scan your ticket

• Verify some registration info

• Hand you a bag of goodies

• Give you a t-shirt ticket to redeem your free tournament shirt

• And if you forget your ticket, don’t worry, we can check you in the old-fashioned way

Make sure to check in early to avoid delays—especially Saturday and Sunday morning—so we can begin the tournament on time.

As we count down the final days to the 2025 World Euchre Championship, we want to highlight a few important changes to the tournament format and movement rules. Please take a moment to read through these updates—knowing the rules ahead of time will help us start on time and keep the tournament running smoothly.

Tournament Format Updates:

• The Singles Tournament will consist of 8 games, for a total of 96 hands.

• The Doubles Tournament will include:

  • 6 games in each Preliminary Round (72 hands total)

  • The top 50% of teams from each round will advance to the Finals Round

  • In the Finals, teams will play 5 games (60 hands total)

  • The top 2 teams with the highest total scores will compete in one final game—12 hands (three trips around the table)—to determine 1st and 2nd place

  • If the final game ends in a tie, a sudden death hand will decide the champion

  • The team with the highest combined score at the end of all games will win the doubles tournament.

Singles Tournament Table Movement:

To make the Singles Tournament flow better and help accommodate those with mobility needs, we’ve implemented a new seating and movement system. Each seat at the table will be marked with a colored sticker, and each sticker determines how players rotate after each game:

• The player seated on the Northwest side (red sticker) will remain seated for the entire tournament. Players with mobility issues are encouraged to sit here.

• The player on the Northeast side (yellow sticker) will move up one column behind them after each game (+1).

• The player on the Southeast side (blue sticker) will move down one row below them (+1).

• The player on the Southwest side (green sticker) will move back one column behind them (–1).

• If you reach the end of a row or column, wrap around to the other side of that row or column.

This new movement system ensures efficiency, fairness, and accessibility. But we need your help—please review the full set of tournament rules before you arrive. It will help avoid confusion and delays during play.

The fun doesn’t stop when the last hand is played each day. Downtown New Glarus will be buzzing all weekend long with music, food, and—of course—more Euchre.

It all kicks off Thursday night at Toffler’s Bar & Grill with live music from The Jimmys, a powerhouse award-winning blues band based out of Madison. Known for their high-energy shows, horn section, and soulful grooves, The Jimmys have toured across the U.S. and Europe—and they’ll get the weekend started with a bang.

From there, the whole town gets in on the fun:

• Live music will be playing at multiple venues across New Glarus throughout the weekend.

• On Saturday night, head to The Ott Haus at 8 PM for karaoke—a tournament favorite and your chance to belt out a few tunes with new Euchre friends.

• Every bar downtown will have tables and decks of cards ready, so you can sit down, grab a drink, and play more Euchre late into the night with players from around the country.

If you're more into food than cards or karaoke, you're in luck. Downtown New Glarus is home to several fantastic restaurants—serving everything from classic Swiss fare to burgers, pizza, and farm-to-table specialties. Whether you're fueling up before the tournament or unwinding afterward, there's something for every appetite.

So bring your cards, your appetite, and your dancing shoes. Downtown New Glarus is the place to be after the games wrap each day. We'll see you there!

We want to make sure all of our players and guests have a smooth experience at this year’s World Euchre Championship—including those who require accessible parking.

There will be a limited number of handicap parking spaces available near the venue. If you have a valid handicap permit and require accessible parking, please email or call us in advance so we can provide instructions and reserve a spot for you. Good news, Euchre fans—this year’s forecast is shaping up to be far more comfortable than what we experienced last year, when New Glarus set record-high temperatures during tournament weekend.

According to long-range forecasts (keep your fingers crossed), we’re seeing:

• Sunny skies throughout the weekend

• Highs in the low 70s

• Cool, crisp mornings—perfect for coffee and cards

It’s a big relief after last year’s heatwave, and while the afternoons should feel warm and pleasant, you’ll want to dress in layers for those early morning games. A light jacket or sweatshirt is a smart choice to start the day.

Of course, this is Wisconsin—and weather can change on a dime—but for now, we’re encouraged by what we’re seeing.

We’ll provide a more detailed forecast in next week’s newsletter, but for now, it looks like ideal conditions to enjoy the game and everything else happening in New Glarus.
